McCain
Don't like his politics, but he's a decent guy. Unless you think his repudiating the blow-hard who opened at one of his speeches was just a calculated damage control move instead of being due to genuine disgust. Maybe I'm naive for believing anything from a politician could be geniune.

McCain seems civil and respectful in debates, but I've seen and read many things which suggest otherwise. There was something on Countdown with Keith Olbermann last night about his judgment in referring to people a certain way. See also: most of [info]scratchtasia's posts since 2/19.

I think McCain is a genuinely decent guy, at least at heart. He's certainly great at being the voice of reason when he can do it from a distance. But he's also been surprisingly spineless when there's a lot of political pressure on him, or when it comes to issues outside his expertise. Last summer, back when he was the establishment pick, he seemed downright soulless. He's been much better recently, but the damned conservative base is doing him (or themselves) no favors with this uncompromising attitude, and he's obviously struggling with it. I don't know what McCain we'll see once we get to the general election.
